Catanzaro - "Catanzaro, Italy, the Church in the diary of Bishop Mazzocca (1897-1930)" is the title of the new volume of Bishop Antonio Cantwell (pictured) , Archbishop Emeritus of Catanzaro, Squillace, which will be presented Friday, February 18 at 17.30 hours, in the Sala della Biblioteca Comunale.
the presentation by the Cultural Academy of the Bronze, "the publisher Ursini, who published the book, and the Public Library" Filippo De Nobili, G. intervene Scalise and Mario Battista Casaburi. Extending greetings Don Massimo Cardamone, Maria Teresa Antonio Foreigners and beneficial. End If Bishop Antonio Ciliberti, archbishop of the city.
The book contains thirty years of Catanzaro, but not limited to, short stories, often in great detail, by Msgr. Domenico Mazzocchi (pastor of Mount Caramel from 1897 to 1908 and then to St. Teresa (Observation) until 1935, the year of his death) in a real diary, entitled "Liber parochialis" that Msgr. Cantwell has "discovered" long ago in the archives of the Parish of Mount Caramel.
'E' - said Msgr.
Mazzocca. E non soltanto per soddisfare una legittima curiosità: in particolar modo i catanzaresi avranno piacere di revisit places that their fathers have attended events and know that the fathers have lived in their flesh. "
In his diary, Mgr. Mazzocca has not, as they say, outspoken and not think twice to call "a little Reverend" a priest, rogue lawyer and a "double agent" who was a mayor Mason believe to vote for Giolitti and then voted Socialist. Talk about great events of history, but at the same time relates very minor details: it tells us even the number of the tomb where he had buried his father, the tone of the bells was installed in the parish church Observance and gave prizes to kids who Winners were Catechism of the race. But what is most striking is the care with which he tells us how certain documents are placed in the parish. It is precisely for this reason that the Mazzocca text can be considered a very important and credible.

Who was Bishop Mazzocca?

From the Diary shows a true character, both as citizens and as a priest. And, in fact, as a boy reveals himself as well type "determined". He was born July 25, 1867 in Catanzaro by Achilles, bookbinder, and Teresa Rizzo, who were always bound by deep affection. He grew up around the parish, standing out for its vitality, but also for his piety. Remember with gratitude his First Communion received by the can. Don Luis D'Elia in the month of the Rosary in 1876, speaking later as the "wedding" with the Lord. Feel called to be a priest, would soon enter the diocesan seminary, which had recently been raised by Msgr. Bernard M. De Rice (1883-1900). Here he developed his choice, which he wanted to be faithful at all costs. An uncle, a Freemason, he wanted to distract from the purpose of becoming a priest, but he asked Monsignor De Riso, bishop of the time, you can take courses in theology in Rome where he was ordained priest 21 September 1890.
